Featured Artist: Gerri Robertson
I retired from teaching eight years ago and have been keeping a promise to myself to become a proper artist. I was a teacher of mathematics, physics and chemistry. I did a lot of travelling, and lived in middle, western and eastern Canada, as well as England, Switzerland and Kuwait. The photographs that I took whilst living abroad and touring in so many places have been a wonderful inspiration for some of my paintings.
In my retirement, I paint pictures nearly every day, sometimes for eight hours a day. Since early May I have been painting outdoors in order to capture the beauty of much of our local scenery: Delhaven Wharf, Margaretsville, Kingsport, McMaster Mills Site, Digby, Wolfville Reservoir, Medford, Hampton Wharf, the Lookoff, Blomidon Inn Gardens and more.
For the past nine months I have been painting with noted artist Ron Hayes of Canning whose excellent advice has helped me make big improvements in my style.
A year ago I took a course in non-representational art with artist Brian Atyeo; that gave me new insights into design.
I live in Wolfville and I travel to Halifax quite often to visit my daughter and grandson. William likes to paint with me when he visits me and he is one of my best critics.

Laid off from work, Tim finds himself doing odd jobs for Mrs. Phipps, a retired professor of mathematics with a disconcerting habit of wandering onto a nearby highway at night. Pushed to the fringes of society, they come to rely on each other. When Tim's wife, Ginette, is offered a job in another city, the hopes and needs of all three come into conflict, with moving and unexpected results.
